I’m not surprised at all that science fiction (and fantasy) is picking up in the mainstream. Everyone loves a good plot and sci-fi tends to be focused on that (along with including philosophy, culture, etc.). There will always be curmudgeons no matter what!
Agreed! Good sci-fi (or any other category of genre fiction) will always be a good story, since as you say, that’s kinda the point of genre fiction (in addition to philosophy, allegory, blah blah blah). Some people aren’t happy unless they’re complaining…
